God laughs

Why do the nations plan evil together? Why do they make useless plans? The kings of the earth take their stand against the Lord. The rulers of the earth gather together against his anointed king. “Let us break free from their chains,” they say.”Let us throw off their ropes.”The One who sits on his throne in heaven laughs. The Lord makes fun of those rulers and their plans. When he is angry, he warns them. When his anger blazes out, he terrifies them.He says to them,’I have placed my king on my holy mountain of Zion.‘ ”

God laughed at those who opposed His decision of sending Jesus as the Messiah. This way of saving humanity was not a joke. The pharisees, Jews, kings and rulers joined forces together to oppose Jesus. They insulted Him, threatened Him and crucified Him. They thought that they did something good for the Jewish nation by crucifying this “blasphemer” (Mat 26:65, Luke 5:21). Yea this Jesus claimed to be God and it was their duty to join forces to exterminate Him. But the One who sits on the throne in heaven laughed at them! These rulers did not understand God’s ways of working. God works in ways that man cannot understand. It does not make sense to man. This son of carpenter is the Messiah? Come on, a prophet cannot come from Galilee they said (John 7:52). Yet this man died, rose from the dead and is sitting on God’s throne!

I am the Lord. I am the God of all people. Is anything too hard for me?” Jeremiah 32:27
Is there anything not surprising from the Lord says the french version.

This is what Paul said:

The message of the cross seems foolish to those who are lost and dying. But it is God’s power to us who are being saved. It is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of those who are wise.I will do away with the cleverness of those who think they are so smart.” —(Isaiah 29:14)
Where is the wise person? Where is the educated person? Where are the great thinkers of this world? Hasn’t God made the wisdom of the world foolish? God wisely planned that the world would not know him through its own wisdom. It pleased God to use the foolish things we preach to save those who believe.Jews require miraculous signs. Greeks look for wisdom. But we preach about Christ and his death on the cross. That is very hard for Jews to accept. And everyone else thinks it’s foolish. But there are those God has chosen, both Jews and others. To them Christ is God’s power and God’s wisdom. The foolish things of God are wiser than human wisdom. The weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
” 1 Corinthians 1:18-25

So the world can be saved only through the death of God’s Son, the Messiah, huh? Stop kidding, it does not make sense dude! This was what the religious Jews and the intelligent Greek philosophers were probably saying. It appeared to be a foolish way of saving sinners but it was God’s way of working.

God does great things that we cannot understand (Job 37:5).

This is what God told to Job in his sufferings:

Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm. He said: “Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge?Brace yourself like a man; I will question you,and you shall answer me. “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand…” Job 38

God was not joking when He kicked Lucifer to hell. God was not joking when He told Adam that he would die if he ate the defended fruit. God was not joking when He crushed His Son on the cross for sinners sake. He is still not joking when He says that all sinners are going to hell. Jesus was not joking when He said that only Him can reconcile man to God and that He’ll return to judge the creation. Yes God laughed at those who opposed Him but the words of His mouth are no jokes.

Sarah laughs

Sarah laughs

For years she must have been anguished, wept and felt bad when she saw her friends with children. She was probably looked down and stigmatized by the society. She was around 75 and she blamed God for making her barren (Genesis 16:2,15, Gen 17:1) and finally gave up. Most probably because of her love for her husband she thought it best to give him a posterity through another woman. She probably thought she was a failure and that she was depriving her good husband of descendants. Her husband was promised a large posterity by God but was not yet a father. Was not her husband also feeling sad? Or perhaps it was her fault. So she took the initiative of finding a remedy to this situation. It must have been hard to tell another woman to sleep with her beloved husband. After some time, her husband became a father but she was not the mother of that child Ismael. Perhaps she thought that she took the right decision and was able to fulfill God’s promise to Abraham. She saw her servant in his husband’s arms (Genesis 16:5) and suffered because this servant was looking down on her.

It was about after 14 years that Abraham became a father through Agar(Genesis 16:15):

God also said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, do not call her Sarai anymore. Her name will be Sarah. I will give her my blessing. You can be sure that I will give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations. Kings of nations will come from her.”Abraham fell with his face to the ground. He laughed and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man who is 100 years old? Will Sarah have a child at the age of 90?”Abraham said to God, “I wish Ishmael could receive your blessing!” Genesis 17:15-18

Abraham laughed at what God said. He laughed because it did not make sense. His old wife Sarah would be pregnant after all these years? Why not blessing and establishing your covenant with Ishmael God? Does not that make more sense? Is not Ishmael Abraham’s firstborn? It seemed to Abraham that God was not understanding the situation.

The 3 visitors came and it was again about the pregnancy of his wife Sarah. “Where is your wife Sarah?” they asked. Sarah was no longer a young woman, she no longer had this desire to have a child. When she heard this conversation, Sarah probably said “Don’t you see it’s too late Lord?” and laughed. (Genesis 18:10-12)

Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh? Why did she say, ‘Will I really have a baby, now that I am old?‘Is anything too hard for me? I will return to you at the appointed time next year. Sarah will have a son.” Sarah was afraid. So she lied and said, “I didn’t laugh.”But the Lord said, “Yes, you did.” Genesis 18:13-15

Why did Sarah laugh? Who would not have laughed? Did not God understand this situation? God knew well what was going on but had His plan. The Lord knew how long Sarah was suffering and came specially for her. We can laugh at many things people say but when God say something, it will happen no matter how impossible it is. God does not joke.

In the french bible it says “Y a-t-il rien qui soit étonnant de la part de l’Éternel?” which means “Is there anything which is not surprising from the Lord”
